Meet Emmy (a.k.a. Pickles) a yorkie/ Pomeranian mix. She is a little fluffy ball of energy and personality. At 4 pounds she is pretty much in charge of the other bigger dogs that live here and that come as guests while Emmy is here. Winn-Dixie does not mind though and in fact has shared most of her toys with Emmy, all except her favorite torn up stuffed toy chicken which she only received this past holiday and must not be ready to watch Emmy pile it up on her heap of other things she has collected around the house during her stay. Just look at that little nose.
On Saturday February 4th 2017 Le Petite Canine set out to shoot a new video for our Collars for Canines Campaign. There was confusion, delay and barking as we attempted to create footage in the park with six dogs. Yes, 6 dogs sized small to medium all on their own leash and tugging to be first in line or first to go to the bathroom or first to figure out what we were doing. In the end we all had fun and we hope you enjoy the results. Take a look at the video by clicking the clink below.
Logan is our Dog of the Week because he welcomed a new puppy into his home a few weeks ago and has done so with great enthusiasm! Logan is a ten year old golden retriever living with his person, Mandy Burke, in Mountain View, California. The new pup, named Barley, is also a golden. The two have become friends and Logan is not too upset to share Mandy's attention with Barley, she gives a lot of hugs to both. Le Petite Canine is happy to introduce Logan as an ambassador. He is pictured above wearing our "Rosie Star" collar and flower accessory.
If you know of a dog that has been a good citizen recently you can submit your nominees to us by email.
T-Bone, Winn-Dixie and regular guest Miss Lucy forecast the Groundhogs fabled climb out of his hole on Thursday morning February 2 at 7:20 am.
Lucy, "So T-Bone what do you think Punxsutawney Phil will say about the weather when he crawls out of his creepy little hole in the ground?"
T-Bone, "I hope he says that we will see the end of winter today and it will stay away forever, my feet are still cold from yesterdays walk."
Winn-Dixie, "I think he will say we are having many more weeks of this wonderful chilly air and maybe he will say there will be more snow for me to lay in, and more brisk winds to put my face up to!"
Lucy, "I am betting that he will either say 6 weeks till spring, or 6 weeks of winter left."

# 1 Support & Respect for Laika
The Moscow stray dog was selected for her calm personality and tiny size. Laika’s space vessel, Sputnik 2, went into orbit in 1957 as the US fell further behind the Soviet Union in space exploration. Originally reported that Laika had survived nearly two weeks and then died painlessly, according to testimony in recent years the little dog suffered heat exhaustion and stress causing her to die within hours of take-off. The movie Hidden Figures has one scene in which the characters at NASA grumble at a news release about the dog’s launch. Laika was one of 36 dogs sent into space by the Soviets during this time period.
# 2 Calculating History Genre
Taking place in 1961 thru 1962, the film highlights everyday obstacles for a person of color such as getting to the bathroom, using a water fountain and having a cup of coffee. Hidden Figures echoes the depth of tribulations all women faced during the 1960’s chauvinist atmosphere. During the course of the story we catch a glimpse of white male co-workers struggling with the blatant inequality they have little control over. At one point Kevin Costner playing VIP Al Harrison, dismantles a sing above the bathroom door that reads Colored in front of a group of NASA employees.
Beginning in January 2017, every single purchase in the Le Petite Canine Boutique will contribute to a new collar for a shelter dog at the Berks County Humane Society. We recently headed into the shelter on 11th Street in Reading, Pennsylvania to distribute some of the collars and meet a few very special dogs waiting for adoption. I was extremely fortunate to run into Chelsea Cappellano, a former art student of mine and a hard working presence at the shelter. She allowed me to hold this little guy in the photo she graciously snapped of me. he is wearing our Theodor Collar & Bowtie and boy did he look handsome. Thank you Chelsea! You made my day!

On a recent trip to the Elvis capital of the universe my family had a chance to sleuth the poop of the Peabody Ducks. My son was curious to know where do these ducks poop.
We did the whole kit and caboodle tour at Graceland and then headed over to the magnificent Peabody Hotel. The hotel has a rich history dating back to 1869 when it opened. Many famous people have walked thru the front doors of this gem from General Robert E. Lee to Elvis himself for his high school prom in 1953.

Dogs & Extreme Weather
Well it's been exhausting this past week catching up on my sleep after the kids when back to school. T-Bone and I mostly cuddled on the couch everyday, especially today after our walk in the snow. He is much more bothered by the cold then I am, but still it was nice to know I have a warm home to come back to after I go outside. i heard that some dogs have to stay out in this cold weather, brrr, that must be hard. Until next week, stay warm. Winn-Dixie the Westie January 6, 2017
Updates from It's A Westie Life
After many long days of perching on the presents, sniffing all of the presents and looking my cutest near the presents, they finally woke up one morning and figured I was begging to open my presents....I spent the morning helping Autumn sniff all of her presents and eating my presents because they were mostly treats and one stuffed toy with a squeaker inside it....and then T-bone and I dressed in our finest to prepare for the hour we are all waiting for... that night we all stay up extra late and watch a giant sparkly ball drop out of the sky in front of a lot of cold people.

Brussels Griffon, "Ewok Dog"
Did you know that without the Brussels Griffon, Star Wars might not even be a movie? That’s right, without the Brussels Griffon dog, the iconic and beloved character of the 1980’s would never have been created. George Lucas got his inspiration for those cute but fierce Ewoks straight from the Griffon, causing them to be now and forever known as “The Ewok dog”. Needing lots of attention, but also plenty of social time, Brussels Griffons are known for their intelligence, sense of humor, and air of self-importance which always keeps them one step ahead of their people.

Introducing the Rosie-Star Collar & Flower
Today I bathed Dixie and then blow dried the heck out of her until she was a fluffy white cloud of fur. She still has a tint of that tell tale Westie trait, the "Yellow Beard." Hmm..that sounds a bit scary or at least odd, "The Yellow Beard." Like the beard is coming to get you or the beard is Black Beards evil yellow side kick. Anyway, she wanted to show off her clean hair-do and decided to model the Rosie-Star collar & Flower. She likes to perch on the writing desk, but a moment after I snapped this picture of her she slid off and I had to catch her with one arm because my other arm was still in photo snapping mode. She asked me to let you know about the stunts she is expected to pull of for the sake of this blog.

WEEU Radio Barks & We Answered
Today WEEU gave away 4 tickets to the Annual National Dog Show in Philadelphia to the first caller to dial in after they heard the barking of a dog live on the radio station. Ian Heckman was ready with cell phone in hand when the sound of barking dogs blurted out of his radio at 8:15 am and he speed dialed WEEU. The station picked up and now we have tickets to check out this years events compliments of WEEU. As we had blogged before we are excited to report back to canine lovers far and wide about the coming weekend action in King of Prussia. Check back early next week. There is sure to be some photos and maybe even video of the Flying Dogs.

Lucy Is Spreading The Word
"All You Need Is Love." Lucy precariously positioned herself behind this pillow today announcing that she had figured out a secret. Little does she know that most people already know this! We know this because that band from Liverpool told us all. But since she is so darn tootin cute I could not help but show you. Oh yeah! She is wearing her namesake bow-tie, "The Lucy." I have a busy day of dog sitting today, besides Lucy I have Louise, Athena and Dakota to walk this afternoon. Better get going. Busy, busy, busy.
Toodles, Heidi Tidy
P.S. The word Toodles is a shortened Anglicized version of
the French phrase à tout à l'heure which means goodbye.
So Toodles again! Heidi Tidy
